About Me

artinoils: Susan Barnes, a native to New Jersey, has been painting in oils actively since 1997. Although Barnes began painting over thirty years ago, her career took a different direction while raising her children. During that period she designed and created handwrought jewelry in silver and gold, which was sold through several galleries in South Jersey. In 1995 she returned to painting starting with pastels before returning to oils. Painting is my passion. Currently painting seascapes and landscapes which are representational with a focus on mood and atmosphere. Her inspiration comes from her love of the coastal areas of the state where she has spent summers since childhood. She wants to enable the viewer to step inside the work, to feel the sun and smell the sea. What attracts me are scenes infused with mood and atmosphere. There is no shortage of either along the coastal areas. Many people have remarked that her paintings have a calming quality. A moment of pause in an otherwise hectic life.
